Seal the slab. Then paint the floor.

Bare concrete floors are rarely as closed as they look. An open, absorbent slab pulls the wet film of a finish coat down into itself, which is where patchy appearance, weak adhesion and early breakdown begin. Prime DP is mixed by weight and rolled on in one coat to stop that happening. Because it is 100% solids and solvent-free, nothing flashes off: the resin that goes into the surface stays there and cures within the top layer of the concrete, consolidating it rather than bridging over it. You finish with a sealed, stable substrate, and the EverFlor coat that follows sits on the floor instead of disappearing into it.

Measured Mix Window

Mix base and hardener at 1.76:1 by weight and the film cures by chemical reaction, not by drying. Pot life is up to 45 minutes at 20°C, so mix only what you can brush out in that window. Nothing is thinned; apply the material as supplied between 10°C and 25°C.

Forty Eight Hour Overcoat

The primer is the bond between the slab and the coating that follows, so the topcoat is planned around it. Recoat after 4 hours at 20°C, and apply the finishing coat within 48 hours maximum at 20°C. Prepare the floor correctly before priming; adhesion depends on it.

Zero Loss Penetration Cure

The resin is 100% solids, so nothing flashes off as solvent and everything applied stays in and on the floor. The material soaks into open concrete and cures within the top layer, consolidating it instead of bridging over it. A 220 micron wet film stays a 220 micron dry film.

Sealed Absorbency Coat

Absorbent concrete draws binder out of a finish coat, leaving uneven gloss and weak adhesion. One coat at 3-4m² per kg seals that absorbency, so the EverFlor finish that follows cures with even gloss and full adhesion. Apply by medium pile roller and cut in with a brush.

Performance Profile

Two-Pack Solvent-Free Epoxy Primer. Mixed by weight and applied in a single coat, Prime DP penetrates porous concrete and cures within the slab. At 100% solids the applied film stays where you put it, sealing absorbency so the EverFlor finish that follows adheres fully and cures evenly.

Essential Information

Product Details

Description

EverFlor Prime DP is a two-part, solvent-free epoxy floor primer formulated for the stabilisation of porous and absorbent concrete. It is the preparation stage in an EverFlor floor build-up — the coat that turns an open slab into a sound, sealed substrate ready to receive a finish.

Porous concrete is the most common cause of a disappointing floor coating. Prime DP is a 100% solids formulation, so everything you apply stays in and on the floor and nothing is lost to evaporation. It penetrates the surface and cures within it, consolidating the top layer of the concrete rather than bridging over it. The result is a substrate that no longer draws the finish coat into itself.

Supplied as a 5kg two-pack unit. Mix the two components by weight, apply one coat over normal porous concrete, then overcoat with your chosen EverFlor floor finish once the priming coat has hardened. As a reactive epoxy it has a defined working window once the activator goes in, so set the area out and mix only when you are ready to apply.

Recommended areas of use

  • Porous concrete floors
  • Absorbent concrete substrates requiring stabilisation before coating
  • As the priming stage of an EverFlor floor coating build-up

Features

  • Solvent-free two-pack epoxy at 100% solids, so nothing flashes off as solvent
  • Penetrates and consolidates the top layer of the slab rather than forming a surface film
  • Seals absorbency so the finish coat cures with even appearance and full adhesion
  • Ready to use straight from the tin — no thinning required
  • One coat covers normal porous concrete
  • Applies by medium pile roller, cut in with a brush
  • Foot traffic after 8 hours at 20°C, so the finish coat can follow the same day or the next
  • VOC content below 30 g/l
  • Suitable for interior and exterior concrete

Good to know

The substrate must be sound, clean and dry before priming. Floors must be prepared correctly to ensure good adhesion — this is the principal limitation of the product. Apply between 10°C and 25°C. Mix the full unit at 1.76:1 by weight (A/B) and do not split it into smaller quantities, as an inaccurate ratio can leave the primer uncured. Overcoat after 8 hours and within 48 hours at 20°C. Full cure is reached after 7 days. Store the unit in a cool, dry area between 10°C and 25°C and do not allow it to freeze. Clean tools with warm soapy water immediately after use, before the epoxy begins to harden.

Application

SURFACE PREPARATION

The floor must be sound, clean and dry before you prime. Remove laitance, dust, oil, grease and any loose or friable material. Floors must be prepared correctly to ensure good adhesion — a primer cannot stabilise a surface it cannot reach.

Work between 10°C and 25°C, with 10°C as the minimum application temperature. Keep the unit in the same range before use.

MIXING

Prime DP is a two-component product. Mix Part A and Part B at 1.76:1 by weight. Always mix the full unit. Do not split it into smaller quantities, as an out-of-ratio mix can fail to cure.

Stir to a uniform colour and consistency, scraping the sides and base of the tin so no unmixed material is left behind. Pot life is up to 45 minutes at 20°C, so mix only when the area is set out and you are ready to apply.

APPLICATION

Apply as supplied — no thinning is required. Use a medium pile roller and work the primer into the surface of the concrete. Cut in at edges and detail with a brush. Apply one coat; this covers normal porous concrete at 3-4m² per kg, giving a wet and dry film of 220 microns.

DRYING, OVERCOATING AND CLEAN UP

At 20°C the primer is touch dry in 6 hours and takes foot traffic after 8 hours. Overcoat with your chosen EverFlor floor finish after 8 hours and within 48 hours at 20°C. Full cure is reached after 7 days.

Clean rollers, brushes and mixing tools with warm soapy water immediately after use, before the epoxy starts to harden.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

How do I know if my concrete floor needs priming?
Prime DP is intended for porous and absorbent concrete — slabs that take water in rather than holding it on the surface. A simple test is to splash a little water on the floor: if it darkens and soaks away, the concrete is absorbent and will draw a finish coat into itself. Priming seals that absorbency so the finish cures with even appearance and full adhesion.
Can I mix just part of the unit?
No. Prime DP is a reactive two-pack epoxy mixed at 1.76:1 by weight (A/B), and the whole unit is supplied in that ratio. Splitting it risks an inaccurate ratio, which can leave the primer soft or uncured. Mix the full 5kg unit, and only when the area is prepared and you are ready to apply — pot life is up to 45 minutes at 20°C.
How long before I can apply the floor finish?
At 20°C the primer is touch dry in 6 hours and ready to overcoat after 8 hours. Apply your chosen EverFlor finish within 48 hours at 20°C. That window allows you to prime and finish the same day or the next. Full cure of the system takes 7 days.
Does it need thinning, and what do I clean tools with?
No thinning is required — apply Prime DP exactly as supplied. It is solvent-free and 100% solids, so there is no cleaner or thinner in the system. Wash rollers, brushes and mixing equipment in warm soapy water immediately after use, before the epoxy begins to harden.
How much floor will one coat cover, and how many coats are needed?
Apply one coat over normal porous concrete, at 3-4m² per kg, laid at 220 microns wet film. Very open or heavily absorbent concrete will take more material, at the lower end of that range. Apply with a medium pile roller, working the primer into the surface, and cut in with a brush.
